Synopsis:

Lamont Cranston is suspected of the murder of Maria Monsel, a blonde dancer, and is accused by gangster Big Nick DeSorto of killing Eddie, one of his gunmen. Commissioner Weston grants Lamont twenty-four hours to find proof of his innocence before he arrests the amateur detective. Lamont finds himself facing certain death when he is knocked unconscious by Big Nick’s goons, thrown into the front seat of his automobile and left to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Lamont escapes and assumes the identity of The Shadow in order to question Maria’s landlady, learning that Fingers, one of Big Nick’s gunmen, was involved with the frame-up. Nick killed Eddie and knowing there was some bad blood between Lamont and Big Nick, framed the wealthy playboy for the murder. The Shadow uncovers the facts: Fingers intended moving up in the gang, and Big Nick would have been next. The police arrive to arrest the criminals whose confessions clear Lamont of the crime.
