I just spotted that the first 24 pages of the new Shadow novel by James Patterson & Brian Sitts are available for preview on Amazon, have a read and let us know what you think of it.
It's a TERRIBLE reboot of the character. The story itself it weak, but the way they treat the Shadow is pitiful if you're a fan of the pulps. I hope this is NOT the rumored blueprint for a new movie of streaming series.
I could tell that just from looking at the table of contents and seeing it jump into the future. I haven't read it yet, but I've not heard anything good about it from Shadow fans.
Though I can say a lot of people don't have much good to say about the 1994 film with Alec Baldwin, but that was what got me into The Shadow. Though mostly the radio show to start with, I'm really only now getting into the pulps and discovering just how damn good they are!
Maybe this new book will bring in new fans who will read the pulps and demand a change back to a writing style more akin to Gibson's. If social media can bring back tv shows from cancelation it can bring back The Shadow and his trusted agents
Yeah, it's funny that many don't like the 94 film, but I love it! It has its flaws but there's a lot of merging of the pulps and radio show. It kind of hit the sweet spot for a modern take in the 90s. I think it would be easy today to do a Netfilx-type series set in the 30s. I really hope the new book is a template for a screen series. But as you say, it may get people back to the source material.
