Synopsis:
True to Joe Carver’s boast when he was sentenced to be executed, three jurors die in the three days since he went to the death house. In each case the victim was struck down with uncanny accuracy by bullets from a high-powered rifle. Carver’s threat included the murder of the governor on the day Carver is to be executed. Lamont races against time to learn the identity of the shooter — Danny Carver — Joe’s brother. Despite being shell-shocked during the war in France, Danny proves to be an efficient sniper. Lamont and Margot investigate and learn that the governor is targeted late that afternoon when he is to ride in a parade in an open car. Suspecting the unfinished steel frame of the Wardman Tower is the best location for a shooting along the parade route, The Shadow races up the tower to the catwalks and steel girders. Danny has an ace up his sleeve — a live hand grenade left over from the war. Pulling the pin to seek revenge against the mysterious voice of the man responsible for his brother’s conviction, Danny threatens to throw the bomb but The Shadow wills Danny to hold the grenade tightly. Weak in mind, Danny obeys the voice long enough to be blown to pieces.
