Synopsis:

Four scholars who are restoring an ancient Hindu book for the Cosmopolitan Museum are being murdered one by one by a mysterious voice calling himself The Shadow. Professors Rice and Hagen are the first two victims, leaving Lamont the difficult task of figuring out which of the remaining two, Professors Amund or Carter, is posing as The Shadow. While Margot visits Commissioner Weston to encourage him to report to the museum with police officers, Lamont faces off against the guilty party, following instructions from a note left at his apartment. Professor Carter is the guilty party, having learned the secret of clouding men’s minds from his section of the Hindu book. Carter committed the murders to lure Lamont Cranston to a face-off and eliminate the real Shadow, so he can capitalize on the power. Unlike his other victims, Carter discovers that Lamont’s mind is not receptive to his hypnosis. When the police arrive, Carter exchanges gunfire with the police and dies before he can reveal the identity of the real Shadow to Weston.
