Synopsis:

Montgomery Latham invented a drug for the desire of vengeance, designed to put the victim into a cataleptic state giving all the appearances of death while the victim remains alive. John Porter becomes the first victim so Latham can prey on the grief of John’s wife and reap her as his reward. Learning that Latham had spent a number of years in the Orient, Lamont suspects foul play believing John a victim of a branch of hypnotic science which he himself learned there. Lamont attempts to break the force that holds John Porter in a death-like trance. Further investigation discovers the cause is a drug and The Shadow phones Commissioner Weston ordering him to dig John Porter’s body out of the grave. The police hurry and give the antidote to Porter to revive him. Latham attempts to escape but the police take him into custody.
