Synopsis:

Hugh Wyndham, once one of the most handsome actors on stage, had his face hideously burned in an accident. Half mad, he vanishes from the hospital without a trace. Two weeks later, Wyndham murders his landlady, the surgeon who operated on him and the nurse who assisted. Lamont and Margot set out on the trail of the elusive Wyndham, hoping to save the next possible victim, Lona Mason. Lona was in love with Wyndham, but the madman suspects her affections are elsewhere now. When they discover Lona has been lured to the Globe Theater, Margot fetches Commissioner Weston while Lamont pays Wyndham a visit as The Shadow. After Lona is safe, Wyndham pleads with The Shadow to teach him how to become invisible so others will not see his face but the Shadow refuses. Knowing death will be merciful, Wyndham agrees to face the lethal consequences because death is darkness and darkness can hide ugliness forever.
