Synopsis:
Lamont and Margot are lured into an old house. While there, all manner of weird things happen until Lamont discovers the whole adventure was a hoax manufactured by Screwball Bennett, an eccentric Hollywood director. The body hanging in the attic is not a dummy, however, and both Lamont and The Shadow begin questioning the suspects. Hercules DiCosta, the actor, is shot dead when he attempts to flee, fearing his fight with the dead man the night before might be considered motive to the police. When Margot comes too close to the truth, courtesy of a newspaper clipping, Bennett is forced to eliminate her before the police arrive. When The Shadow comes to her rescue, Bennett uses her as a human shield. The Shadow wrestles Bennett’s hand, knocking the knife to the floor, disarming him. While the mystery movie was on the level, Bennett had planned to get even with his former comedy star for not showing him any affection, by blaming her for the murders.
