Synopsis:

Evelyn Wesley is suffering from a nervous breakdown, having witnessed the death of her husband when he could not escape a burning studio cottage on their private island. Her fiancé, Dr. Stephan Haller, wants her to stay on the island to conquer her neurotic fears but Evelyn continues to catch glimpses of her late husband’s face through the windows of their home. Carl, her only brother-in-law, arrives on the island by an invitation from her late husband and soon becomes a victim in the same manner as his brother. Lamont and Margot visit Evelyn because Margot is an old friend. The Shadow questions Dr. Haller, suspecting he is trying to drive Evelyn insane, but when Margot is knocked on the head by Evelyn with a flashlight Lamont suspects the woman has gone insane. The truth comes out, thanks to The Shadow — Carl is alive and well, having faked his own death. With Evelyn out of the way, he would inherit the family fortune. It was he who committed the murder of Roger months before and was attempting to eliminate Evelyn.
