Synopsis:
Margot and Lamont are hired by Bertram Fordyce to learn the secret of El Kastab, rumored to be a hidden treasure from the Holy Land that was relocated after the war. Fordyce has been trailed across the ocean by a mysterious man named Constantine who has something in a cage and who continues to demand Fordyce reveal the truth about El Kastab. Arriving at the Fordyce residence, Lamont crashes through a skylight to find him dead from what appears to be a vicious animal with claws and scales. The Shadow questions an importer with whom Fordyce did business, learning Fordyce once owned a map revealing the location of the treasure. Returning to the Fordyce residence, The Shadow finds widow Lucy Fordyce killed by the same creature. Margot is caught by Constantine and seconds away from becoming his latest victim. The thing in the cage is Suba, a fierce native pygmy from the Niger region of Central Africa. The Shadow hypnotizes Suba in his tracks and laughs because Constantine will soon face a cage of his own.
