Synopsis:

Independent cab drivers are the prey of a new underworld crime which Shreve explains to Lamont. When his cab is stolen, he discovers it repainted and assigned a new driver. The taxi racket has gotten out of hand, according to Commissioner Weston, who agrees that a gang is stealing cabs, repainting them and changing the serial and engine numbers. Meanwhile, Mr. Hendricks of a local jewelry store demands action after being robbed of sixty thousand dollars in merchandise — and threatens to have Weston’s head if nothing is recovered in forty-eight hours. Margot becomes a victim when the cab driver knocks her unconscious and steals her jewels. Lamont follows the trail to the Acme Garage where he discovers the men responsible for the crime spree and finds Mr. Hendricks is the man behind the crimes. Having cashed in on the insurance, Hendricks shoots one of his aides after learning what they did to Margot. The Shadow phones the police about the garage. Shreve gives Margot and Lamont a lift to the opera free of charge for helping him get his old cab returned.
