Synopsis:
Lamont suspects a fake passport and identification racket is tied to the suicide of Henry Adams, a broker whose daughter, Irene, is being courted by her late father’s business partner, Ray Kelvin. Investigating, The Shadow discovers that Henry Adams is alive and well — held captive by Kelvin in a family vault in the local cemetery. Kelvin stole securities from the company and wants Adams to sign a confession. The stolen securities can be traced to the passport racket, because Kelvin worked with a man named Berger, a shrewd operator. Even though Adams is too weak to stand by himself, he will not sign for a crime he did not commit. The Shadow comes to his rescue and Kelvin shoots Berger dead and locks the two surviving men in the sealed vault. The Shadow uses his short-range radio to instruct Margot to signal the police. Flooding the vault with a fire hose from the groundskeeper’s shed, Kelvin cheers and chuckles with glee, thinking his former business partner and The Shadow will die before the police arrive. But, thanks to Margot, the police arrive in time and Kelvin is shot when trying to escape.
