Synopsis:
While attending a private party at the castle-like estate of millionaire Michael Welch, Lamont and Margot stumble upon a crime of historic patterns. Welch believes he is the reincarnated twelfth-century Duke of Ancona. He plans to repeat the tragedy of centuries ago by causing a flood, forcing the guests to remain on the estate and become infected with a plague. Having financed Professor Charles, spiteful against a society which deserted him when he once took ill, the men feed deadly yellow fever germs into screened boxes full of mosquitoes which will pick up the disease. Margot distracts the professor long enough for The Shadow to pour acid over every box, killing the insects. Suspecting the professor of sabotage, Welch shoots the scientist dead. Preying on the vulnerable mind of Welch, The Shadow torments the madman until he chooses to commit suicide with the same gun he used to kill the professor.
