Synopsis:

Newspapers report of the death of Stevens, a noted explorer and scientist — the sole survivor of a five-man expedition to Ecuador. He returned with a cage of vampire bats which Lamont suspects are linked to recent livestock deaths in the area. The explorer’s daughter, Claire Stevens, is suffering from the same condition that killed her father, anemia. Her guardian, Dr. Vickers, has replaced the servants with a Slavic couple who answer his call. Claire is less than a year away from inheriting her father’s fortune, but Dr. Vickers is attempting to kill her using a breed of large vampire bats. Venturing into the horrible hills, Lamont asks Margot to visit the estate by herself, acting as a friend of Claire, but the doctor isn’t fooled when he discovers his plan is exposed by the invisible Shadow. He forces the two women to the grotto that overlooks a bottomless pit so he can feed them to the bats. The Shadow wakens David Henderson, Claire’s fiancé, to help him find another way to the grotto. During the encounter, Dr. Vickers goes crazy and accidentally falls into the pit. Later, Lamont tells Margot that he used dynamite to close the cave, sealing off the dangerous bats for all time.
