Synopsis:

A kidnapping racket gets personal when Lamont is ambushed and viciously beaten by gangsters in Margot’s apartment, while on the trail of the ring. The Shadow questions the kidnap victims and discovers that Rocco and his associates prey on them with a hoax based on scientific fact. With the help of a professor, the kidnappers have been able to keep the head of one of their victims alive. They threaten the victims with the same fate if they do not pay the ransom or if they tell the police. The Shadow takes Mr. Lawton, the latest victim, to the hideout to prove to him that the living head was a trick. The police arrive to discover the crooks disarmed and Rocco Vitale is later found guilty of the brutal murders of the victims who didn’t pay the fees.
