Synopsis:

Local superstition states half of the island of St. Jude is dominated by zombies who work on a plantation belonging to a devil lady, Mrs. Nesbit. On board a boat bound for the island, Lamont and Margot meet Betty Fulton, a desperate young woman in search of her fiancé, David Belmont. After a thorough investigation, Lamont is forced to become The Shadow in an effort to break the spell Mrs. Nesbit has over her manservant, Mondo, and learn the secret she uses to turn natives and tourists into living dead people — slaves who move and act like animals. She accomplishes her task by feeding them a drug whose effects wear off unless administered daily. After The Shadow interferes, Mrs. Nesbit discovers her hold over the creatures is not as strong as it once was and becomes a victim of her own device. Back on board the ship, David is reunited with Betty and the local authorities clear the men of any responsibility for Mrs. Nesbit’s death.
