Synopsis:
Released after serving a three-year sentence, John Torrance is soon placed on trial for the murder of a judge who initially sent him to prison because of a threat he made. Torrance is innocent, but his only witness is The Shadow — who struggles to decide whether to reveal his true identity in court to save Torrance — because the court will not accept testimony from an invisible witness. Tracking down the man responsible for hiring Torrance’s defense attorney, The Shadow discovers the real killer, Duke Sparell, is offering a ten thousand dollar bonus to the attorney if he succeeds in allowing Torrance’s conviction. Renting a hotel room next to Torrance’s, Lamont and Margot set up a microphone to record the confrontation between the attorney and Sparell, who kills the lawyer after he argues a poor defense for his client. Even with a conviction against Torrance, he’ll be released a free man thanks to the recording.
