Synopsis:

Thomas Gaunt and his Indian servant, Murdo, open a sealed urn brought back from a Himalayan expedition and. to their horror, discover a rare, green mold that bubbles and squirms. When Gaunt’s hand comes in contact with the hungry matter, his mind becomes twisted and he uses the mass as a means of spreading infection to his wife, Eleanor, and sister-in-law. Lamont and Margot answer a call for help and quickly discover the horrible truth. Lamont’s chivalrous nature gets the better of him when he is knocked out from behind after discovering Murdo’s body. Margot is taken to Gaunt’s laboratory and strapped to a table. After Gaunt removes his glove and infects his victim with the mold, Margot faints. The Shadow arrives and discovers Gaunt intends to make his two visitors carriers of the living death, using infected rats contained in a steep and slippery pit. Gaunt tangles with The Shadow and falls into the rat pit. In desperation, he tells The Shadow where the antidote is located, but he is devoured by the green mass of rats before he can be saved. Lamont injects Margot with the antidote and throws rat poison into the pit for good measure.
