Synopsis:

Pedro Mendez, a servant in the house of Kent, pleads for help when he reveals to Lamont Cranston that his mistress, Valerie Kent, has been admitted to an asylum in the village of Black Rock. When she rejected the proposal of her guardian, Driscoll, he sent the girl to the bogus asylum in the hopes that Dr. Andre will drive her insane so he can inherit her money. Margot goes undercover as a nurse and learns that Pedro’s claim is true. The Shadow enters the house of horror to discover that Margot, now hiding in the corner of a padded cell, switched clothes with young Valerie so the girl could escape and fetch the police. When the doctor discovers the switch, The Shadow combats Igor, a brute with a destroyed mind, the evil doctor and Driscoll himself in an effort to save Margot. Pedro appears, taking the law into his own hands. After stabbing Driscoll in the heart, he ventures into the same room during the climactic battle in which The Shadow forces Igor to stand frozen by manipulating the little mental powers the man possessed. Andrae shoots Pedro dead, but not before he throws his knife at the doctor, killing him almost instantly.
