Synopsis:

The bodies of three women have been fished out of the East River. Their husbands admit trouble at home, suggesting suicide. When Margot’s new maid, Angie, leaves early one day to attend a cult meeting, Lamont suspects “The Oracle” is committing murders. In an effort to find a link between the drownings and the weird snake-worshipping cult, Lamont uncovers the truth: The Oracle once had a cult of his own in the Ozarks and his wife ran away for another man. Having perfectly preserved her body in the form of a statue, he now spends his time killing other faithless wives in revenge. While Shreve keeps The Oracle from returning home, Lamont and Margot inspect the house. In the cellar they discover a secret worship room and poisonous snakes. The Oracle returns early and, catching the sleuths in his secret lair, starts to tilt the floor so they slide and drop into a watery grave. But Lamont and Margot hang on to a ledge. The Shadow faces off against The Oracle, who attempts to commit suicide with a poisonous snake, only to discover The Shadow had killed the snakes and replaced them with the non-poisonous ones so the law can take over…
