Synopsis:

A stage actor named Gaylord Johnson slashes his wrists one evening and spends his dying moments telling a stagehand that he will return from the dead to haunt the theater. Weeks later, having heard stories about the ghost without a face wandering the theater at night, Lamont encourages the theater manager to open the play as planned in hopes that he, too, can see the specter. When actress Dorothea Trombetta is attacked by the ghost and her body disappears, Lamont and Margot visit the theater after hours to search the place thoroughly. Dodging trap doors and falling sand bags, the sleuths eventually discover the night watchman, Pops, is really Johnson in disguise. During the confrontation up on the catwalk, the railing breaks and Gaylord falls to his death. Lamont later explains to Margot that Mr. Ames wanted to close the play but Gaylord wanted to perform and swore no one else would ever star in that theater again.
