Synopsis:

Margot and Lamont are gathering material for a series of magazine articles while vacationing on Jesse Cummings’ ranch in Arizona. They stumble upon an old West mystery: Ben Markham, the ranch foreman, claims the ghost of a notorious outlaw named Pete Larkin is roaming the countryside. After his dog is trampled to death, a Mexican handyman is found slashed with a knife and everyone at the ranch, including Lamont and Margot, witness the ghostly appearance of the outlaw. The prime suspect is Corey Craggs, a novelist who writes of the supernatural and resides a few miles away. Investigating a shack similar to Cragg’s, however, Lamont discovers Manuel is the guilty party. Having attended an eastern university where he learned physics and electrical engineering, Manuel — also known as Pete Larkin Jr. — invented a new type of motion picture projector that allows him to manufacture images anywhere. It was his intention to frighten everyone off the ranch so he could dig up the vast fortune his father buried under Jesse’s ranch house. The Shadow exposes the plot and laughs, knowing the young man will be spending time with plenty of psychologists for the rest of his life.
