Synopsis:
Robert Adams, a well-known engineer and member of the Savoy Club, in which Lamont is the chairman of the house committee, confides to Lamont that he is afraid. A ransom note signed by the Greek goddess Medusa threatened to turn him into stone if he did not pay thousands of dollars. Before Lamont can act, a masked woman in white robes makes an appearance and later turns Adams into stone. When wealthy banker Gregg Baker finds himself facing the same choice, he too is turned to stone when he does not pay up. Close on the heels of the person masquerading as Medusa, Lamont receives the same threat. At a water fountain late at night, Margot delivers the ransom money as bait so The Shadow can pose as the Greek god Neptune to create a distraction long enough to unmask the criminal — Helen Steel, a sculptress who enjoyed art exhibitions and stone statues. Baker comes to her aid, revealing how he staged his own death in a plot to work alongside Helen to blackmail wealthy socialites. Weston takes over and after questioning the criminals, learns where they buried the body of Adams.
