Synopsis:

A little man named Foster Merrill seeks recognition as “The Destroyer” — first by setting fire to a warehouse and then setting off explosives at a hotel. Believing he is acting with perfect logic and reason, he sends an announcement to the police department that the entire city will be destroyed within twenty-four hours. Accidentally stumbling upon three suspects — one of whom verified his involvement with the recent death and destruction — Lamont attempts to learn the identity of The Destroyer. After a failed attempt on his life claims the life of one of the suspects, the Shadow questions another, only to discover they are silenced before speaking the truth. Having narrowed down the suspects to Forster Merrill, and reasoning that the only way to destroy the entire city was to destroy the Atlantic Dam fifteen miles to the north, The Shadow appears at the scene. Before Merrill can smash the floodgates, The Shadow torments him by claiming he destroyed nothing — and to prove it, he materializes as Lamont Cranston, whom Merrill assumed he killed the day before. Panic-stricken, Merrill loses his balance and falls into the water with the explosives still strapped to his chest, setting off an explosion.
