Synopsis:

Alvin Graham strangles his wife, Nina, after learning she has plans to leave him after discovering he was responsible for the death of his first wife. When the cabbie Nina called to take her away arrives, Graham is forced to shoot the cabbie. Four days later, Shreve explains to Lamont and Margot how a friend of his vanished when answering a call so Lamont and Margot investigate. Meeting Nina, they naturally assume the couple reconciled, unaware that she is really a woman named Cora and not Nina at all. Suspecting Lamont and Margot are too close to the truth, Alvin spikes their hot chocolate and puts their bodies in the cab. With help from Cora, Alvin starts the cab toward the thin ice of a frozen lake. Moments later, the cab returns with no one behind the wheel. Cora has a nervous breakdown. Tormented by the voice of Nina, Alvin believes the murdered dead have a way of coming back. The Shadow introduces himself and orders them into the cab — the destination is the death house with the two frozen statues — the cab driver and Nina. Cora fears the ride while Alvin claims the request is inhuman. With no other option, the guilty parties enter the cab. Later, Lamont explains to Margot that he knew the chocolate was spiked and didn’t have time to warn her. He pretended to be unconscious long enough to jump into the front seat and save them both.
