Synopsis:

Four prominent, law-abiding citizens of a social club suddenly go berserk. One of them murders his wife and another kills a night watchman. The third clubs a hobo to death with his cane while the last splits open his partner’s skull with a water pitcher. Commissioner Weston is stumped when he cannot find a connection other than that the murderers are members of the same club to which he belongs. None of the murderers actually remembers committing the crimes, yet all of them have the very positive feeling that they wanted to kill their victims. Commissioner Weston also commits a murder at the club during a workout. Lamont investigates and after foiling an attempt on his and Margot’s lives, solves the case. One of the members of the club is Joe “Acids” Raymond, the chemistry professor’s prize pupil, victim of a school hazing which caused him to suffer a spinal injury. Wanting to exact revenge on all the members of the chemistry class, Raymond posed as a masseur so he could rub an experimental potion on the backs of their necks, creating thoughts of murder. When The Shadow attempts to prevent another killing he is locked in a steam room for his efforts. Lamont cleverly keeps to the floor, away from the heat and steam, and the police arrive in the nick of time.
