Synopsis:
A series of thefts occur across the city with the guilty men claiming they were doing it for The Shadow. Commissioner Weston is at a loss, however, when he discovers that none of the guilty can provide any details of their meeting with the invisible man. When Margot attempts to kill Lamont by driving off a cliff, he discovers she was hypnotized. In the hospital, Lamont digs deep into her subconscious to discover “Brain” Benson, who was previously executed for crimes against the state, is responsible. Professor Warren cleverly arranged for Benson’s brain to be kept alive after the execution and keeps it in a glass jar. Connecting an artificial heart to it, he keeps the brain alive. Through mental commands, the brain takes over the professor and arranges for the series of thefts to fund the necessary surgeries that will allow his brain to be transplanted into a young body. Visiting the professor’s lab, The Shadow discovers he has walked into a trap — the brain knows his real identity. The Shadow tricks Warren into shooting at him, but instead destroying the artificial heart and the brain once and for all. As for the professor, the strain of being dominated by the brain for so long caused him to regress into childhood and he was committed to a state mental hospital.
