Synopsis:
The body of lawyer Burton is discovered and the murder weapon is revealed to be a sacrificial knife used by certain Tibetan cults. Questioning the widow, Lamont discovers she possesses a small black Buddha which her husband purchased just a week before his death, from one of the assistants in a little Oriental shop on the east side of town when the owner was absent, Sun Ti offered to buy it back. Mr. Burton rejected his offer and was promptly killed. Thanks to the assistance of Margot, The Shadow infiltrates Sun Ti’s back room in an effort to uncover the truth: any non-believer who touches the black god defiles the god and is subject to death. During a confrontation with The Shadow, Sun Ti makes his escape using a secret passageway behind a wall panel. Before Lamont and Margot reach Mrs. Burton’s apartment, her dead body is found and the statue missing. Following a trail leading to the Oku Mari, a ship docked at the waterfront bound for China, The Shadow confronts Sun Ti. Making another attempt to flee, Sun Ti races between the skids of coffins until the ship is rammed and a wall of coffins falls on top of him.
