Synopsis:

In an old inn on Land’s End, three people have committed suicide by walking over the cliff into the sea. Hypnosis and drugs have been ruled out as the cause so the innkeeper, Mr. Tufts, places a classified ad in the newspaper hoping The Shadow will come to his aid. Lamont and Margot arrive during a coastal storm and spend the evening questioning the suspects and witness. After discovering Sigu bats in the attic, Lamont kills them and finds what accounts for the “suicides.” A scratch from the little mammals carries a poison that creates a sudden artificial fever, so intense that the victim has only one thought — air and cool water. Mr. Gordon, a victim before Lamont and Margot arrived, was really Malcolm Senklane, who was trying to prevent the sale of the inn so he could inherit it. He accidentally became a victim of his own weapon.
