Synopsis:

Jonathan Drake wrote, produced and directed a murder play inspired by the real clientele of the local tavern in a run-down section of the city. Lamont can’t picture anyone killing people because they stole the spotlight but the mystery comes true when two of the three actors whose characters died in the play are murdered in similar fashion. Unsure how a fictional murder mystery could come to life, The Shadow questions the suspects, only to witness the third murder — by way of a bottle of poisoned liquor. When Drake vanishes the police start a manhunt for the author. Piecing together the clues and going undercover in the disguise of a derelict, Lamont manages to get a poisoned bottle from Mike, the bartender. Realizing his scheme is exposed, Mike struggles in an effort to destroy the bottle but when Commissioner Weston and Margot arrive they discover that Mike has been holding Drake captive. The proof still lies in the glass of liquor Lamont poured before the bottle was smashed. Mike thought the play was making fun of him and wanted to pin the murders on the author to make him suffer.
