Synopsis:
With a steady process of elimination, Lamont Cranston believes he has discovered the identity of the man responsible for acts of sabotage against the U.S. Navy. All of the submarines and battleships that were sabotaged had been built, repaired or reconditioned at the Sag Island Yard. There, Lamont verifies that Steve Buckler is planting canisters of nitroglycerin that will be set off at a later date. Realizing Steve is under orders from a higher power, The Shadow allows him to continue his acts of sabotage long enough to track the source to Mr. Arnheim, a foreign agent who promised Steve money for the jobs. Realizing he was just being duped into the promise of riches, Steve backs out of his latest assignment and is shot dead for his bravery. The Shadow attempts to apprehend Arnheim and his hoodlum, Rigo, but finds himself caught in a trap when the room starts to fill with gas. The police arrive, courtesy of Margot’s anonymous tip, and The Shadow is saved in the nick of time. Arnheim and Rigo die a swift death when their getaway speedboat explodes — The Shadow had planted the latest canister of nitro, initially meant for a battle cruiser, in their speedboat.
