Synopsis:

Dr. Nathan Tufts escaped from the state hospital for the criminally insane. In spite of all police precautions, the lunatic claims his first of three victims, which he swore to murder because they were instrumental in having him put away. The doctor murdered his wife and attempted to restore her to life with some elixir he cooked up. The Shadow questions Peter Giles, Tufts’ former assistant, and learns that the lunatic transplanted the pituitary gland from a live ape into the corpse of a killer who was recently executed by the state. The killer, now half-man and half-ape, under hypnotic orders from Tufts, brutally murders the doctor and sets out to finish Tuft’s vengeance. After the second victim is murdered, The Shadow races to Commissioner Weston’s apartment and convinces him to arrange the bed to look as though he were sleeping in it. The killer is shot to death when he attempts to kill a sleeping Weston.
