Synopsis:

Lamont and Margot arrive at a private sanitarium in the village of Gaelsberry, hoping to meet Dr. Blair. A patient named Griswold believes the ghost of Count Cagliostro, who died in the Bastille in the eighteenth century, is watching over him. While Margot is escorted into another room because of a headache, Lamont, suspecting something wrong at the sanitarium, attempts to phone Commissioner Weston. With the assistance of Torfu, a seven-foot tall mental giant, the inmates took over the sanitarium and have been posing as doctors. Lamont finds himself thwarted by the local police and Torfu, forcing him to become The Shadow in order to save Margot from Griswold, who wants to perform surgery on her headache. The Shadow pretends to be the spirit of Cagliostro to scare Griswold away and his ploy succeeds. Outside, Griswold and Torfu attempt to escape but Torfu, having gone crazy with joy because of the sharp knife in his hands, stabs Groswold to death before plunging to his own death.
