Synopsis:

John is running a million-dollar operation involving hijacked goods. His mother, Mary, operating a boarding house on the Riverfront, takes in a new boarder named Migone, Lamont Cranston’s former gardener. Mary forces Migone to smash open a number of slot machines (placed under a bridge by police), so she can take the nickels from the machines. Leaving him for the police, Mary’s greed tips off Lamont and Margot when they come looking for Migone. With the assistance of Officer Kelly, Lamont discovers that a gang of river pirates operates by night. When Lamont gets too close, he finds himself captured and lowered into a pit where man-eating rats reside but he rises from the pit as The Shadow and comes to Margot’s rescue when she comes looking for Lamont. John turns off the lights to even the score but when his mother accidentally falls in the pit John reaches out to save her and is pulled in. The police arrive too late to rescue John and Mary.
