Three spinster sisters living in an old family mansion face death at the hands of their butler, Brooks. The first sister was pushed off a window ledge to the pavement below. Miss Matilda, the second sister, was found stabbed to death with a pair of scissors with her fingerprints on them. Lamont suspects murder; the police rule suicide. The Shadow questions Mr. Carter, the family attorney, and discovers that as executor of the estate, he inherits the family fortune if all three sisters die. Brooks will share in the wealth for assisting Carter. After turning Carter over to the police, The Shadow races to the mansion to save the last sister, Emily. The Shadow knocks Brooks unconscious. Weeks later, Lamont and Margot comment on the court case and how Brooks was sentenced to death for his crimes. Emily was apparently in love with the butler for after the verdict and the sentences were pronounced, she committed suicide.
