Synopsis:

Through a confession on a homemade recording, Lamont and Margot learn that James Crispin suffers from a rare form of amnesia — he cannot recall what he does in his sleep. After discovering the body of his next-door neighbor in the trunk of his wife’s car, Crispin believes others will be safe if he never sleeps again. Unaware that he has been doped with morphine, Crispin wakes to learn from his wife that he returned home late one evening, offering a foundation for the crime of murder. After an attempt on Lamont’s life, Crispin discovers from The Shadow that his wife hired a man named Grimes and his sidekick to kill the neighbor and frame him in her attempt to drive him to a nervous collapse. He couldn’t be hanged for the crimes while asleep, but he could be declared insane and be committed to an institution so his fortune would be hers. After The Shadow exposes the truth, Crispin loads a gun and shoots his wife; Crispin will be committed after all.
