Synopsis:

Two people have been savagely attacked and murdered in the streets. Dora Adams, the only survivor of the attacks, claims the attacker was a mental patient from the Berdach Asylum. Professor Dufail, Head of the Board, denies the accusations while the newspaper reports a madman roaming the streets. When Dufail is found murdered and Lamont discovers that the two previous victims were both members of the asylum board, he wins his bet with Commissioner Weston that the murders were in fact premeditated. Margot and Lamont visit the asylum to investigate. When Lamont is sent to another room where the murderer resides, Dora Adams reveals to Margot the reason for her scheme: her father was a brilliant psychologist but never achieved the recognition he deserved. Professor Dufail applied political tricks to push her father out, and he died penniless. From her father, Dora learned how to penetrate the subconscious minds of the patients and make them obey her commands. Ordering the killer to eliminate Margot, Dora discovers The Shadow’s will is stronger her than own when he breaks her will, freeing the killer’s mind. Angry, the homicidal maniac turns against Dora, killing her.
