Synopsis:

When a patient at a private sanitarium in Plumfield is found dead, apparently of fright, Lamont and Margot visit the doctor in charge in order to discover if the patient really had a wild imagination or if it was murder. Lamont meets patient James Douglas, who claims the doctor and nurse committed murder to gain control of the patient’s fortune. Fanny, another patient known to possess wild thoughts, reports a similar story and Lamont investigates. Fearing his secret will be exposed, the doctor knocks Lamont and Margot unconscious but The Shadow proves to Fanny that her flights of fancy are nothing more than a ruse cooked up by the doctor and nurse, frightening their patients to death so they could gain control of their money.
