While investigating the disappearance of an etcher named D’Arcy, Lamont and Margot have run into a vicious counterfeiting gang.A gambling room next to a nightclub is being used to replace real bills with the counterfeits. Lamont attempts to investigate and is knocked unconscious from behind and there is a failed attempt on Margot’s life with a shotgun. The Shadow questions Rego, learning who is behind the production and distribution of the counterfeit bills. Knowing Rego talked, Mr. Bones orders his trigger-happy gunman, Buster, to silence Rego permanently. Then the two men set about destroying all the evidence. When the Shadow appears at the scene, Mr. Bones uses Buster’s sawed-off shotgun to kill the intruder, but accidentally shoots Buster dead. The Shadow knocks the gun out of Bones’ hands and laughs — the police will be arriving soon to meet them.
