Synopsis:

In the sleepy, sluggish marshland of the bayou, Lamont and Margot are invited guests of Colonel Houston to taste real southern hospitality. Instead, they stumble upon the legend of the swamp. The Rat Woman controls the bayou rats and leads the pack against villagers for revenge. The rats have killed several people recently. A curse is placed on any house responsible for the death of a rat. After Lamont and Margot commit the crime, they are asked to leave — but not before the truth is revealed. Carlotta was able to control the rats by command. The colonel went mad and used Carlotta and the rats to clear the village of people so the land would be worthless, and he could someday buy it for himself. After a confrontation, Carlotta is killed when the rotten shack of old slave quarters comes down and a beam crushes her to death like a rat in a trap, thus ending the curse.

Note:

The Wikipedia page for The Shadow Episodes lists this episode as "Out of This World" and marks it as preserved. How this episode came to be known as "Out of This World" I do not know but the preserved episode of that name is probably the Australian broadcast "Out of this World" which was an adaption of the January 21st 1945 episode "Death is Just Around the Corner"
