Synopsis:

Margot and Lamont tour the island paradise of Port San Luce, for a little rest and relaxation. Local superstition claims one man and one woman disappear without a trace every year in Port San Luce. The natives call it “geelmett” — the night that eats men. Curious to learn if there is any truth in the superstition, and the identity of the murderer of a local native, Lamont, Margot and their guide, Eustace, follow the trail of the murderer only to become the next intended victims. The island natives worship a strange deity that requires human sacrifice. Ten years ago a Scotsman named McBaird and his wife ventured onto the island and discovered if they assisted the natives by supplying humans for the annual sacrifice, they would be paid in diamonds mined from the now-extinct volcano. Eustace is paid for luring the tourists to the island of Kulumo. McBaird’s wife, however, has decided that the time has come to put an end to the murders and cuts Lamont and Margot free from their bonds. Unable to find Lamont, McBaird offers Eustace for sacrifice in Lamont’s place. Before they can flame-brand Margot, The Shadow orders the natives to set the white people free and orders no more human sacrifice. In fear of the voice of their god, the high priest does so. Desperate, McBaird attempts to prove their god is nothing but a statue and shoots the stone, shattering it into pieces. The angry natives rise up against McBaird, ending the human sacrifices once and for all.
