Synopsis:
On the trail of suspected narcotics smugglers, Lamont Cranston and Commissioner Weston trap the suspects in a blind alley. After searching them, it is found they are carrying talcum powder — not dope. Diego and Mendoza are taken in but will not reveal anything to the police except that their boss is known as “The Peddler.” The boss tipped off the police with photos of Diego and Mendoza to misdirect them, giving the smugglers time to get the goods off a ship after it docked. Visiting the waterfront, Lamont and Margot meet a Treasury agent named Hickman, who is close on the heels of The Peddler. It doesn’t take long for Lamont to realize that the real agent is dead and The Peddler has assumed his identity. After Lamont jumps out a window to avoid being shot, The Peddler forces Margot into a small boat so he can use her as a shield when he makes his getaway with the real goods. The Shadow boards the boat and knocks the gun out of The Peddler’s hands so he won’t pose any further threat. Realizing they have been double-crossed, Diego and Mendoza tell the police everything needed to send The Peddler up for life.
