Synopsis:

The police are attempting to track down the person responsible for peddling dope on the society level following the suicide of Thomas Elwood, found with fifty ounces of heroin in his apartment. Having a tough time locating the Big Sell, Weston employs Cranston and Margot. The person responsible is Martha Jonas who has been stealing narcotics through her hospital connections and then peddling the dope to friends of her wheelchair-bound husband, Edward. When he confronts her with the facts, she creates an “accident,” killing her husband in a fall from a twenty-foot high terrace. Having witnessed the murder, her daughter Norma suffers from what is called hysterical recall. When Lamont discovers that Martha has covered every possible path leading to her guilt, he resorts to becoming The Shadow. It fools Norma into thinking she has received a visit from her late father. He re-enacts the murder scene so the police can use Norma as a witness to the crime to convict her mother of murder and distribution of narcotics.
