Synopsis:
Trying to break a check racket run by Choker English, Lamont Cranston locates Tony Gremm, Choker’s aide, but Tony is murdered before he can reveal anything. Commissioner Weston and Lamont Cranston apply the usual detective methods to narrow down the suspects to one — Choker English, recently released from prison for a number of crimes including counterfeiting. In an attempt to trap Choker, another accomplice is shot to death and Margot is kidnapped. Lamont receives a note ordering that he back off or one of Margot’s fingers will be mailed to him every day. Desperate to learn Choker’s whereabouts, Lamont brings together Jenny and Flo English, two of his accomplices — and wives. After learning that Choker crossed both of them, Flo tells him the whereabouts of her husband and the police race to the house. When Choker discovers that the police have surrounded the wrong house accidentally, he plans his escape, but is surprised to discover Margot has disappeared and The Shadow has arrived to seek justice. Punching Choker for each of his victims, The Shadow knocks the criminal unconscious. Later that afternoon, Margot learns that Commissioner Weston agreed with Lamont to pull a attack on the wrong house, to buy Lamont (as The Shadow) enough time to slip inside before anything could happen to Margot.
