Synopsis:
The trail leading to the killer of baseball star Buck Tarlov ends when the one man who knew the killer’s identity — Buck’s doctor — is murdered. While searching for Buck’s medical file, Lamont and Margot are knocked out from behind and the file is stolen. After the manager of the baseball team finds the murder weapon wrapped in his uniform, he attempts to dispose of the evidence, knowing the police will not believe his innocence. The Shadow confiscates the evidence and examines the uniform. Confronting Margot and Buck’s widow with the uniform, Lamont discovers a stain and exits to tell Commissioner Weston about it. After he leaves, Margot realizes the stain is makeup and Buck’s widow pulls a gun. Her husband’s legs were giving out on him and while she enjoyed his paychecks, the insurance money would have been better than no checks after the end of the season. The Shadow arrives and knocks the gun out of her hand, saving Margot’s life. Later, Lamont confesses he knew that the stain was makeup but needed an excuse to return as The Shadow and arrange for the arrest of the murderer.
