Synopsis:

The reading of a strange will in the massive Victorian house of retired banker Carl Lawton ends with a veiled threat. The man’s body is found at the bottom of a cliff, and his nephews Sidney and George and niece Joan are the prime suspects. As a friend of Carl, Lamont helps the police learn who was responsible for his death — but the suspects have vanished.Tracking them down one by one, Sidney is found murdered, followed by George — in the sequential order Carl left his estate (according to his will) in the event of his death. When Joan is the lone suspect, Lamont asks Lieutenant Steele for one hour to prove that Carl is really alive. He faked his death by switching clothes with a dead derelict as part of a plan to destroy his family. Sitting alone in the estate, Margot and Joan face the supposedly dead man but before Carl can eliminate the women The Shadow arrives in time. Out of desperation, the Carl commits suicide with a shot to his head.
