Synopsis:
When Sam Jackson is haunted by a horrible burning and hissing of a tapestry depicting a frightful picture of the curses of Satan, he calls on Lamont for an explanation. After witnessing the strange event himself, Lamont discovers the tapestry returns to normal — and also Jackson’s murdered body. In Breon, Canada, while tracking down the old woman responsible for making the tapestry, Lamont and Margot witness a second murder — that of Sam’s fiancée, Christine. The sleuths find the old woman, who apparently had been murdered by the same hand that killed the previous two. Following the trail to the cave at Satan’s Bay, The Shadow tangles with Dr. Reade, who treated Jackson’s burns knowing full well their origin. The tapestry was hand-woven with uraninite, a radium-bearing ore. The doctor created the sound of fire by using static from the telephone and hoped to secure the location of the uraninite, hence the murders to cover his tracks.
