The murderer of Achmed Amir has been identified as Steven Mancheck and his last whereabouts have been established as Glendale, Pennsylvania. Mancheck stolen vital dispatches from Amir and then jumped off a train, injuring his leg. Lamont and Margot, having heard the alert from the Intelligence Office, join the manhunt by acting as a couple of vacationers in the vicinity. They soon discover that Mancheck is hiding at the residence of Ruth and Alan Duncan. Alan is a former subversive who, not wanting his wife to learn about his past, allows Mancheck to take shelter while government agents seek him out. When Alan discovers his wife is presently a member of the Party and only married him because the Party felt he might become valuable one day, his heart breaks. The Shadow arrives, steals the papers and punches Mancheck unconscious so the authorities can take over and arrest the two espionage agents.
