Synopsis:
A storm over the village of Windhaven has brought two murders in its wake — murders without motive except for the puzzling disappearance of “The Daisy-May,” a colored lithograph of no apparent value showing a trotting horse. When The Shadow discovers that the murderer is seeking specific artifacts from an estate that was auctioned off months ago, he finds proof in the hands of Clark Benson, a peculiar resident who owns his late grandfather’s diary that claims a hidden treasure map was among the artifacts. After Benson is taken in for arranging the murders of three prominent citizens who once owned the artifacts, Lamont solves the mystery. He proves that Luke Styles, who used to be the recorder until the Town Board voted to abolish the job, added fake entries in the diary so Benson would become the weapon for murder and revenge.
