Synopsis:
Wealthy socialite J. Gardiner McVoy asks Lamont and Margot to find out the identity of his wife’s murderer only to learn the cold hard facts — in an alcoholic stupor, he himself murdered her and fled the scene. When Lamont questions Bijou Bennett, a singer at the nightclub who was with McVoy the night of the murder, a gun shot from the fire escape silences her. Nick Mantelli, a nightclub owner and underworld gangster, attempts to murder Lamont and Margot after McVoy hires them but fails to reckon with The Shadow. As Mantelli attempts to rub out his employer, The Shadow reveals the truth: Mantelli committed the crime in a jealous fit of rage. Bennett knew the truth and was silenced before she could speak against him. The Shadow forces the car to the curb, pushes the driver out and takes Mantelli’s gun away, so the police can take over and clear McVoy of a murder charge.
Note:
This episode would later be re-written as “The Case of the Vanishing Killer" broadcast August 8th 1954.
