Synopsis:
Shortly after Martha Gunn discovers the charred remains of her stepfather in the furnace, she arranges for the killing of her stepfather’s killers, Walter Adams and Cheyney Benson. Seeking revenge on Victor Casella, the third and final murderer, Martha is goaded by the voice of her dead stepfather to kill him. Put on the trail courtesy of Martha’s fiancé, Eddie Holmes, Lamont and Margot race to find Casella before he becomes the final victim. Each of the victims was found to have a handful of second place medals in his pockets. After piecing together the clues, Lamont dons the guise of The Shadow to save Eddie’s life before Martha is prodded into shooting him. In reality, her stepfather is very much alive, and it was the body of Casella that was dressed in her stepfather’s clothes, his face and hands burned to prevent identification. The four men were operating a counterfeiting plant selling cheap medals made of Brittania metal, a perfect imitation of silver. Their victims bought the medals thinking they were purchasing real silver of value. Mr. Gunn turned Martha into a dupe — a murderer in a carefully-planned scheme foiled when The Shadow saves Eddie’s life and proves Mr. Gunn is alive and well. Angry, Martha comes to her senses and shoots her father dead. The Shadow prevents her from committing suicide so she can be handed over to the law.
